Chiriquí arguably has the friendliest people in Latin America. Proud, boisterous
and warm, the hospitable manner of the Chiricanas permeates throughout
Chiriquí’s arts and cultural history. Chiriquí is also home to a large
population of Ngobe-Bugle (Guaymi) Indians, Panama's largest tribe. The Ngobes
have preserved their tribe’s traditions and cultural practices, providing a rich
experience for ex-pats and visitors. Ngobe women can be seen in colourful
hand-stitched dresses called naguas in vivid hues of blue, red, and green. The
Ngöbes are also the inventors of woven handbags called chacaras.
Chiriquí hosts a variety of cultural festivals, making it possible to experience
the cultural treasures of this region. Boquete’s Flower and Coffee Fair, La
Candelaria’s Agricultural Fair and Boquete’s Orchids Fair are among the best
opportunities to experience Chiriquí ’s warm and vibrant culture.
