Chiriquí is the breadbasket for this region of Central America. The economy is
based principally on livestock and agriculture farming, and provides the
majority of cultivated products to its neighbor to the east, Panama. In addition
to tourism and the growing number of international residents, Chiriquí’s most
recent source of economic growth is the cultivation of highland coffee,
spreading widely across plantations throughout the province.
Coffee produced in Chiriqui is considered the finest in the world and record
breaking prices have been paid for recent harvests.
