Compared with other countries, Chiriqui is considered an easy place for
foreigners to buy property. It is not necessary to be a resident of Panama to
buy and own property, there are no restrictions on owning land in most areas,
English is commonly spoken, and the United States dollar is the accepted
currency.
Chiriqui offers a wide range of real estate choices, from breezy beach towns on the coast to
plantations and year-round spring temperatures in the mountains. According to a
recent article in the Los Angeles Times, a new three-bedroom house in Boquete,
with 225 square meters (2,400 square feet) of living space sells for around
$265,000. In beach resort areas, a four-bedroom condo with 230 square meters
(2,475 square feet) sells for approximately $375,000. With the upcoming surge of
78 million baby boomer retirements in the U.S. and many millions of other baby
boom retirements in Canada and Europe, Chiriqui is enjoying rapidly increasing
land values.
